In this episode of The Trillium Show, I sit down with Abby Ham for a conversation about identity, reinvention, and what happens when you finally step away from something that has defined your life for more than two decades.

Most people in East Tennessee know Abby from her years behind the anchor desk, waking up with Knoxville long before sunrise and becoming part of the rhythm of this community. But behind that public role was a demanding schedule, a lot of personal sacrifice, and the constant pressure that comes with living so much of your life in front of other people.

We talk about Abby’s path into broadcast journalism, what it was really like to build a career in morning news, and how that schedule affected everything from sleep to marriage to family life. We also get into the harder parts of public-facing work: criticism, boundaries, self-doubt, and the challenge of separating who you are from what other people expect you to be.

What I appreciated most about this conversation is Abby’s honesty. She shares what it took to leave a successful career, why confidence looks different in your 40s than it does in your 20s, and what she is learning now as she builds something of her own. This is a conversation about trusting yourself, asking for help, and giving yourself permission to write a new chapter.

It is thoughtful, funny, candid, and full of insight for anyone who has ever wondered whether being good at something is reason enough to keep doing it.
