The patients that come to Dr. Hall for breast augmentation usually have a couple of top priorities: they want to get a noticeable boost in breast volume, but they also don’t want their new breasts to look unnatural. One of the biggest concerns for women is that people will be able to see “rippling” along the outer edges of their breasts which are caused by the implant. We wanted to put together this blog post to talk about what causes rippling and what patients can do to make sure that it doesn’t happen after their breast augmentation. Women that are ready to get their “perfect” breasts should call Dr. Hall today at (865)973-9500.
Dr. Hall is one of the most sought-after surgeons in all of Tennessee because he has dedicated himself to delivering gentle and caring service to all of his patients. Women that decide to undergo a breast augmentation have a wide range of issues that they need to sort through. Dr. Hall helps his patients make the best possible choice for themselves, and one of the biggest concerns for our patients is rippling.
Regarding breast augmentation, rippling is when the folds in the outside of the implant can be seen through the skin. It looks like little ripples or waves. Obviously, our patients want to avoid this unnatural look.
Rippling is usually caused when the skin and breast tissue over the implant is very thin over the top of the breast implant. This can be made worse with saline implants or using larger breast implants. It is also more common when implants are in the subglandular (over the muscle) position. Women with thin layers of breast tissue can still get phenomenal results, but they’ll need their implants placed under the chest muscle (submuscular placement) or will need to add fat grafting to their breast augmentation to enhance their results and prevent rippling later on.
Women still have some options that they can use to prevent rippling with their implants.
One of the things we often tell our potential patients on the phone is that one of the best things you can do to answer your questions definitively is to see Dr. Hall in person for a consultation.
