Take a look below for our thoughts on this important question. Before you make any decisions, don't hesitate to give me a call at (865) 973-9500. I'd love to talk with you about your particular concerns and answer any questions you have.

Breast Lift Longevity: It Really All Depends

One of the very first things you learn in medicine is that every single patient is unique and responds to surgery (or medications) differently. That's why it's so difficult (and sometimes frustrating for our patients) to answer questions like "How long will my breast lift results last?"

For some of our patients, breast lift surgery can be effective for 10 to 15 years, but we also get patients who report that they're happy with their results for much longer than that. The reality is that it all depends on certain factors that are unique to you.

So what are those factors? Here are four elements that can contribute to the longevity of your results.

  • Your skin - Even though your genes play a huge role, there are some simple and affordable techniques that anyone can use to get the best breast lift results possible. Eating a healthy diet (heavy on the veggies, really light on the meat and dairy), quitting smoking, and exercising regularly can improve the results. Vitamins C and E have also been shown to have benefits for your skin. There are also some interesting breast massages and skin treatments that could have a positive impact as well, but nothing has been proven with these. If you are interested in "alternative" treatments to boost your skin health - check with me first. That will help keep you from wasting money or time on treatments that have little chance of working.
  • Support your breasts - Gravity constantly pulls on your breasts, especially when you exercise or jog, and the support your bras provide will likely extend your results.
  • Surgery method matters - The surgical method used in your procedure could be one of the most important factors for getting long-lasting breast lift results. There are a few different surgical techniques; some that only move the skin of the breast (which causes the breasts to sag sooner) and others that actually move and reshape the breast tissues. We will discuss every single detail of the procedure with you beforehand so you feel comfortable and know exactly what's going on.
  • Pregnancy and weight - To any of our breast lift patients who are planning on getting pregnant, it is probably best to wait to have any breast improvement surgeries until after you're finished having children. Drastic weight changes of any kind should be avoided because they can change your results and cause the need for corrective surgeries.

We always try to put as much information up on our blog as possible, but when it comes down to it, you should give us a call at our office at (865) 973-9500. Even if you're just starting to think about getting breast surgery, we would be absolutely thrilled here at our Knoxville Plastic Surgery practice to talk with you and help you with any questions you might have.
