Botox has become a product that is widely known in the United States. In fact, more and more men and women are choosing to receive Botox injections to treat various types of aging – crows feet, forehead wrinkles, frown lines – just to name a few. If you’ve been increasingly disappointed with your aging reflection, call Dr. Hall at his office today to make an appointment for a Botox consultation. And if you’ve never had Botox before, then you may be wondering how Botox works and how long you’ll need to “recover” from your injections. That’s exactly what we will be discussing in this blog, so keep reading.
A Little More About Botox
Botox is the best-selling non-surgical, anti-aging cosmetic treatment on the market today. It targets some of the underlying causes of the signs of facial aging – years of repetitive muscle contractions that occur when you frown, smile, or raise your eyebrows. Dr. Hall can smooth out these lines and deep wrinkles by injecting Botox into your problem areas during one quick 15-minute office visit. These injections will temporarily reduce the targeted muscle constriction in patients. It is important to note that Botox is not a permanent anti-aging solution and patients will require continued injections to maintain their results. If you choose to discontinue treatment, your previously smooth face will regain its aged look over time.
What Will My Treatment Session Be Like?
When residents visit Dr. Hall for Botox injections, they will be greeted by a friendly member of his staff. Once you have made your way to an exam room, Dr. Hall or one of his experienced injectors will determine how much Botox will be needed to reduce your specific lines and wrinkles. Botox will then be injected into several spots around your designated problem areas. Most people tolerate the injections well and often remark that each injection feels like a small pinch. Once your treatment session is completed, you will begin to notice results within 48-72 hours (although for some first-timers, it can take up to 2 weeks for Botox to fully work), and you can expect to keep those results for 3 months or longer, depending on the severity of your lines and wrinkles.
What Downtime Can I Expect?
Another reason so many people choose Botox as their anti-aging solution is due to the fact that treatment requires minimal downtime. This means you can visit Dr. Hall during your lunch break and return to work when you’re done. Typically, patients only experience slight swelling and redness at the injection site, which quickly resolves throughout the day and can be covered with makeup immediately after your appointment.
In order to help avoid side effects, and to encourage your injection sites to return to normal more quickly, Dr. Hall recommends you:
- Avoid medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or other blood thinners for about a week before your treatment.
- Remain upright for at least four hours after your Botox treatment.
- Avoid having facials or a massage near or on your treatment area for several days.
- Avoid using topical medications where you received Botox for several days after your treatment.
- Be sure to use your muscles as you normally would. This will help your injections finalize quicker.
