Chances are, you’ve heard the hype surrounding Kybella, an injectable treatment to melt away the “double chin” and help redefine the jawline without surgery. As of January, 2016, Kybella will be available in plastic surgeon’s offices across the country, but only to a select group of aesthetic offices. Dr. Hall and Brooke Nix are proud to be one of the only offices in East Tennessee to be able to provide Kybella during its initial introduction.
Wait a minute…did you say it can get rid of my double chin?
The “double chin” is one feature that most Americans share, and one that most of us have learned to live with. If you believe the data from Allergan (manufacturers of Kybella…and Botox and Voluma – 2 other products we love), almost 80% of people are unhappy enough with their double chin to want to change it. Until now, that meant surgery – liposuction or a neck lift. With Kybella, however, the “double chin” can be eliminated with a few in-office injections.
How does Kybella work?
Kybella is, essentially, a purified form of a chemical that is found in our intestinal tract. It’s job in the “real world” (ie: your intestines) is to help break down the fats that we eat to smaller particles to aid in their digestion. When that chemical – deoxycholic acid – is purified and injected into fatty deposits under your chin, it breaks down the fat that is present there for your body to absorb and get rid of. In the FDA trials, it was so effective in getting rid of fat that the FDA cleared it for use under the chin – a very cosmetically sensitive area.
What can I expect from a treatment?
In the FDA trials, patients underwent a series of treatments with Kybella – about one a month for 3-4 months. The treatments are very quick (about 15 minutes) and, with the addition of a light topical anesthetic, almost painless. You can expect some mild redness immediately after the injection, and the area under the chin will be slightly swollen for a few days after the treatment.
What does it cost?
Kybella’s cost depends on the amount of fat that needs to be treated and the number of treatments necessary. Jump over to the pricing page and you can get pricing for a typical Kybella treatment.
