L aser skin treatments can help remove skin defects and blemishes by stimulating the body’s natural healing ability.
Nearly any laser skin treatment can accomplish this, but many of them require you to take considerable time off due to the long healing time that is needed to see results. Specifically, the Laser skin treatment is known as laser resurfacing, using a fractionated laser (think of how a golf course looks after it’s been aerated – this is what the laser looks like…lots of tiny spots are treated at the same time), is different, as it allows the body to heal from the inside out – minimizing down-time and allowing for a much quicker, more pain-free recovery.
D uring your first consultation with Dr. Hall, he would examine the affected areas of your face, take photographs, and ascertain the nature and extent of the problem. There might be a need to discuss your medical history with the doctor as well. Then. he creates a personalized treatment plan for you and discusses the scope, benefits, and risks of the procedure with you.
Before any kind of laser skin tightening and resurfacing procedure, your skin needs to be prepared the right way. According to your needs and the details of your complaints, Dr. Hall will advise a preparation routine that includes a series of skin treatments a number of weeks before the surgery. The main aim of these treatments is to enhance the tolerance of your skin to laser treatment and reduce the risk of side effects.
Laser skin resurfacing procedures are performed either in the office or in the accredited surgical center just beneath Trillium Plastic Surgery. Usually, a topical anesthetic is all that is needed for the procedure, which is applied approximately an hour before the procedure. The procedure itself takes between 20 and 25 minutes depending on the areas you and Dr. Hall decide to treat.
This form of treatment uses beams of light from specialized equipment to achieve the desired results. Dr. Hall uses pulsating light beams that are short and concentrated to target irregular skin. This way, damaged or unwanted skin can be removed with incredible precision layer by layer. This means that a number of potential problems like changes in the color or the tone of the skin can be avoided with a very specific and targeted application of the light.
The epidermis, the outer layer of the skin, can be safely removed during this treatment. At the same time, heat is applied to the dermis or the underlying layer. This stimulates the dermis and promotes the healthy growth of collagen. Once healed, the upper layer of skin that is produced in the treated areas is much firmer, smoother, and free of defects.
The lack of natural development of collagen is what often results in problems of the facial skin, especially in those of advanced age. By helping this natural collagen production along, results that look natural and organic are made possible. Dr. Hall is happy to offer his patients fractional laser skin resurfacing. Using laser skin treatments, Dr. Hall can resolve a wide range of skin conditions, such as:
F ractional laser skin resurfacing differs from many traditional laser skin treatments in that the top layer of skin is not destroyed during treatment, allowing for a much quicker, more comfortable recovery.
Most patients will notice some swelling and redness in the treated areas for a few days after laser skin tightening & resurfacing treatment and may peel as you would if you had a mild sunburn. After a few days, you will notice your skin beginning to look smooth and shiny. However, for treatment of dyschromia (pigment changes in the skin) or fine lines, the laser can be adjusted so that only the top part of the skin is treated. Using the most up-to-date laser technology, the treatment can be customized to your specific concerns – brown spots, fine lines, deep lines, redness, or scars.
It is important to avoid heavily crowded areas where the risk of infection is elevated during the recovery period. You will also need to make important adjustments to your regular skincare routine. The treated area would need repeated cleaning on a daily basis using vinegar or saline-based cleaning agents recommended by Dr. Hall. Dressings would need to be changed regularly and the use of a recommended moisturizer product can help keep the area hydrated. Sun protection can also be of paramount importance after this kind of treatment. Using a sunscreen product on a daily basis is something we recommend.
L aser skin treatments are priced by the treatment, so the total cost depends on how many treatments are needed to accomplish your skincare goals. The total cost depends on the laser that is used, as well as the areas that need to be treated.
Your total costs can include the cost of anesthesia and the use of a surgical facility (if needed, although most patients comfortably undergo laser treatments in the office), and the cost of prescriptions for medication. It’s also vital to remember that typically, non-ablative procedures can cost significantly less than ablative ones. At Trillium Plastic Surgery, we also offer our patients the option of obtaining financing for this treatment through Care Credit. This can be done on their website or directly at the clinic.
