Female breast implant patient in black dress

After you call, you'll get to talk with one of our friendly and highly-trained staff. We spend much of our day on the phone with our patients, and we would love to hear from you. The next thing to do is schedule your first consultation with Dr. Hall here at our lovely, modern offices. During this first consultation, you'll get to ask Dr. Hall all of your questions (and probably even more that you didn't think of) and discuss your goals for the procedure. From there, Dr. Hall may perform an examination as he develops his recommendation and begins creating your unique, custom-made treatment plan. This plan will guide Dr. Hall through the rest of the procedure and help him ensure you get the results you want. Contact us today to learn more and get the ball rolling.

Saline and Silicone Breast Implants

Women often come into our offices with some misconceptions about breast implants and the differences between silicone and saline implants. Here's a quick breakdown.

Saline Breast Implants

Women may remember hearing about saline breast implants since the 70s and 80s. They are actually still very popular. Saline implants have a silicone shell that is deflated and inserted into the breast pocket. Once in place, the implant is filled with the desired volume of saline solution.

Pros

  • The scar is smaller because they are inserted
  • They are less expensive.
  • You know immediately when they rupture or leak because they deflate.
  • Some reports say capsular contracture is less likely with saline (especially when placed under the muscle).

Cons

  • They tend to show more "rippling" on the skin.
  • They may not feel as "natural" as silicone.
  • May tend to "bottom out" more because they are heavier.

Silicone Breast Implants

Women choose silicone breast implants more commonly than saline. Silicone implants do have a few advantages that women prefer.

Pros

  • They tend to feel more "natural."
  • They are less prone to "rippling" on the sides.
  • They are lighter, so there's less risk of "bottoming out."

Cons

  • Silicone implants are more expensive than saline.
  • They tend to require a slightly longer scar.
  • Harder to detect a leak. Only an ultrasound or MRI can find a silicone implant leak. In fact, the FDA recommends patients get regular MRIs with silicone implants. (disclaimer: few women with silicone implants ever get these MRIs, as they must pay for them out of their own pockets)

Now, during your consultations with Dr. Hall, he will discuss all of this (and much more) in greater detail. Our patients love working with Dr. Hall because they feel confident in every decision as they move forward.
