One of the most common plastic surgery procedures is breast augmentation. Knoxville women that are unhappy with their breasts and women who have had a mastectomy can feel more feminine and get a huge boost to their self-esteem with breast implants. The procedure is safe and, thanks to many advancements in technology and surgical techniques, not only is the recovery period shorter, but our patients also get beautiful and natural-looking results. However, while the results of the procedure are virtually permanent, there are other aspects of the procedure that also last a lifetime, namely, the scar.
Unfortunately, whenever the skin is cut, a scar forms as the body heals that is unavoidable. That’s why one of the hardest decisions for women thinking about breast implants is which type of incision they should use. In this blog post, we want to cover some information on the different types of incisions for breast augmentation. Incision Options for Breast Augmentation
Knoxville women all have different goals and concerns with their breast augmentation procedure. But when it comes to the incision, most women spend a lot of time considering which one they want.
- Inframammary incision – Dr. Hall places this incision in the fold below the breast. This incision allows Dr. Hall to work accurately and very close to where the implant will be placed. While the scar is visible, it is on the bottom of the breast, and is completely covered by bras and bathing suits.
- Transaxillary incision – With this option, the incision is made in the armpit. Dr. Hall then “tunnels” the implant to the breast pocket. One huge benefit of this incision is that here is no scar near the breast and the scar in the armpit can be easily hidden.
- Periareolar incision – This incision is made around the nipple (the areola), and the resulting scar blends into the skin around the areola. This incision also allows women to hide the scar behind their bra or swimsuit after their breast augmentation.
Knoxville women will have plenty of time to talk with Dr. Hall about the pros and cons of each incision. Dr. Hall firmly believes that all of his patients should be able to make a confident and well-informed decision. That’s why he always discusses the disadvantages and risks of each of these options.
