Here at Trillium Plastic Surgery we are often asked to explain the difference between Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Broadband Light (BBL), which we have in our office. This is a great question because it seems at first glance that these two light treatments are one and the same, but in fact are very different.

Let’s first talk about their similarities such as what purpose they serve. They are both targeting hyperpigmentation as well as vascular issues such as broken vessels and rosacea. Unfortunately, that is where their similarities end. IPL is very limited in how much correction can be achieved and not all skin types can be treated safely. When treating a patient with BBL we are able to customize your treatment to the most effective filter of light to safely treat hyperpigmentation and vascular concerns as well as acne causing bacteria. Due to the ability to treat with multiple light filters, BBL can safely treat darker skin types unlike IPL.

BBL takes it a step further with the Forever Young Treatment. This treatment will give you all the same results as BBL in addition to “turning back the clock” by altering the expression of the DNA aging gene which will restore the skin to a healthy beautiful youthful glow!
