Consider Your Options

With lip enhancements, there are a few different paths to reach your desired end. Let's have a look at the two most popular ones:

Injectable Fillers: The use of fillers like Restylane and Juvederm is preferred by many for the sheer simplicity of the procedure. In just half an hour under local anesthesia, you can have artfully placed volume enhancements with minimal recovery time. The only downside to this method is that the injections must be repeated every 6-9 months in order to maintain your results. Fillers are good for "detail" work and can serve to highlight fine details of natural lip anatomy.

Fat Injections: The use of fat injections, by contrast to fillers, yields a much more permanent increase in lip volume and is believed by some to provide a more natural look and feel. Using fat harvested from other areas of your body, you receive the same expert placement of volume to accentuate your lips, however, this method requires a slightly longer procedure - about 1 hour - under IV sedation and local anesthesia and a longer recovery period. Fat is good if the lips lack overall volume, but can be a little problematic when it comes to adding fine detail to the lips.
