W hat is Restylane?

Our Knoxville Restylane is an FDA-approved, injectable hyaluronic-acid-based dermal filler. It's used to smooth wrinkles and restore and enhance facial volume for both women and men.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural, protein-based substance produced by your body. HA is a type of sugar that attracts water and is nature’s best skin hydrator. It also promotes healthy connective tissue growth, providing a firm foundation for smooth, vibrant skin.

As we age, our production of HA declines. That’s where Restylane can step in!

More specifically, Restylane can address:

  • Loss of facial volume, particularly in your cheeks
  • Facial wrinkles and folds
  • Dark under-eye circles
  • Lip repair

Benefits of Restylane

  • Safe
  • Produces impressive results
  • Can be reversed if desired
  • Nonsurgical and minimally invasive
  • Much more affordable than surgical procedures
  • Quick treatment sessions
  • Comfortable
  • Convenient
  • Little to no downtime
  • Boosts confidence and self-esteem

Restylane vs. Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators are the family of neurotoxin-based injectable drugs that includes Botox®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau®. Like fillers such as Restylane, neuromodulators are often used to smooth and even erase facial lines and wrinkles. Neuromodulators work by interrupting nerve signals that cause your facial muscles to contract.

Continual facial contractions over the years etch lines into your face. Temporarily preventing those muscles from contracting gives facial skin a break from all that constant pulling and tugging, resulting in a smoother and more youthful-looking face.

Hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane take a different approach. As the name would indicate, fillers “fill” wrinkles or an area of your face that has lost volume. HA injectable dermal fillers are used on “static wrinkles,” These are wrinkles that are visible at all times.

Neuromodulators are better suited to treating “dynamic” wrinkles that form as a result of smiling, frowning, and squinting.

Consultation and Preparation

A t Trillium Plastic Surgery, Knoxville plastic surgeon, Dr. Jason Hall and his expert team, will take the time to get to know you and learn about your treatment goals. Then, after carefully reviewing your medical history to ensure you are a qualified candidate, Dr. Hall will design a customized Restylane® treatment plan for you.

About two weeks before your treatment, you will be directed to suspend the use of:

  • Aspirin
  • Vitamin E
  • Fish oil
  • Ibuprofen
  • St. John’s wort

Data suggests that taking arnica, purchased over the counter at pharmacies or health food stores, both before and after your injections can help reduce bruising and swelling.

Your Restylane Procedure

Y our injections will be performed in an office setting with no incisions. You’ll receive a topical anesthetic. After thoroughly cleaning your treatment sites, your provider will use an ultrafine needle to inject the proper amount of Restylane into your targeted areas.

Depending on the extent of your treatment, your procedure can take anywhere from a few minutes to a half hour. After your treatment team observes you for a few minutes to rule out any adverse reactions, you will be free to go. Restylane injections are often referred to as a “lunch break” treatment.

Recovery, Results, and Aftercare

Y ou will likely have some redness, swelling, and bruising for a few days.

Stay out of the sun until those symptoms have resolved, and after that, get in the habit of using a daily high-SPF sunscreen.

You’ll see results immediately, but your new look will be completely apparent once your swelling subsides. You can prolong your results by practicing good facial care and avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption.
